Grok is a woke, crypto-loving insult comic according to X users

Grok, the latest AI chatbot, is officially live on X. And by that we mean it’s exclusively available to Premium+ members who pay $ 16 per month for a subscription.

According to the announcement Grok “loves sarcasm,” and is “designed to answer questions with a bit of wit and has a rebellious streak.” Grok will “answer spicy questions that are rejected by most other AI systems,” is built with “people of all backgrounds and political views” in mind, making it safe to say, Grok is Musk’s answer to his version of free speech.

How has Musk’s vision of Grok turned out? If Musk wanted Grok to be more aligned with his point of view, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. Here’s what early users are sharing:

Uh oh, it appears Grok has derailed Musk’s plans to defeat the “woke mind virus.”

Grok also doesn’t seem to be aligned with Musk’s anti-trans rhetoric or X’s content policies which omit hate speech protection for trans people.

Musk may not be voting for Biden in 2024, but Grok would (if it had voting power).

That said, Grok is still Team Musk on the important things, like who would win in a Musk vs. Zuckerberg showdown.

Grok is also a fan of Musk’s favorite cryptocurrency, Dogecoin.

An emerging favorite feature of Grok is the “Roast me” prompt which appropriately took down Rep. Thomas Massie for his outrageously tone-deaf 2021 Christmas card.

Grok is many things, but it was not made with OpenAI code. Grok’s training data inevitably contained ChatGPT outputs, which explains the reference to OpenAI’s policy in this response:
