Six new emoji from iOS 17.4 beta

Apple’s iOS 17.4 beta dropped with 118 new emoji, according to a recent Emojipedia blog post, including two head-shaking emoji that signify yes or no, a fiery phoenix, a lime slice, a mushroom, and a broken chain.

The aforementioned six are, as Emojipedia pointed out, “brand new emoji concepts.” However, the remaining emoji build upon already established characters.

On top of the sextet of new emoji concepts, you’ll also find four “non-gender-specifying” family emoji with the following combinations:

  • Adult, Adult, Child

  • Adult, Child, Child

  • Adult, Child

  • Adult, Adult, Child, Child

“In addition to these new four non-gender-specifying family emojis being introduced, the iOS 17.4 beta also changes all of the existing family emoji designs,” Emojipedia said.

In other words, instead of the family emoji set having its current colorful aesthetic, they will now have a white-silhouette-on-gray-background look.

iOS 17.4 beta also introduces 108 new direction-specifying people emoji with varying skin tones and genders for the following characters:

  • Person walking

  • Person running

  • Person kneeling

  • Person with white cane

  • Person in wheelchair (manual)

  • Person in wheelchair (motorized)

iOS 17.4 is expected to roll out to the wider public some time this spring.
