‘Maestro’ trailer: Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein film enters the Oscar race

A woman leans on a man's back, both smiling, in a black and white film still.

Bradley Cooper cemented himself as a director to watch with his directorial debut A Star Is Born. Now, the teaser for his follow-up, Maestro, promises a similarly ambitious, deeply emotional film — one that also revolves around music.

Cooper stars as famed conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein, with Carey Mulligan joining him as Bernstein’s wife, Felicia Montealegre. The film’s first teaser trailer paints a portrait of their relationship throughout the years, from their first flirtations to their marriage and Bernstein’s affairs with men.

Maestro may not be the first expansive biographical drama that toggles between black and white and color that we see this year (Oppenheimer says hello!), but given its subject matter and Cooper’s prior awards success with A Star Is Born, keep your eyes out for Maestro come awards season.

Maestro hits select theaters Nov. 22 and is streaming on Netflix Dec. 20.
